About the Topic
The theme for the Deepwater Infrastructure Forum in 2005 is "Challenges of the Cold Regions." This meeting will focus on the topic of ice loading impacts on deepwater floating structures in the arctic environment.
About the Speaker
Mr. Spencer has a Mechanical Engineering degree from the Technical University of Nova Scotia and a Masters of Marine Technology from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1985, Mr. Spencer joined the Arctic Vessel Research group at the National Research Council of Canada where he worked until 1996. There his research activities involved calibration of the model tests with available full-scale data, icebreaker trials, ice loading on offshore structures, and development of new modeling techniques. He was also responsible for the acquisition of the DECICE discrete element computer code for ice modeling and subsequent development and calibration of this software. During the ten years of research with the ice basin he produced approximately 100 technical reports and research papers on ice related topics. Mr. Spencer left the NRC to form Oceanic Consulting Corporation where he has conducted a number of commercial projects related to offshore developments in Sakhalin, Caspian Sea, East Coast of Canada, Barents Sea, and Bohai Bay.
