About the Topic

The theme for the Deepwater Infrastructure Forum in 2005 is "Challenges of the Cold Regions." This meeting will focus on geotechnical issues that affect design and construction of facilities in cold regions. These include permafrost, earthquake analysis and design of arctic platforms, and field operations. Interactive discussion with the speakers will be emphasized.

About the Speakers

Ken Been is Team Leader for Golder Associates worldwide services to the oil and gas industry based in Houston. He played a key role in investigation, design and construction in support of offshore exploration in the Canadian and Alaskan Beaufort Sea in the 1980s, including pipelines, sand and gravel islands, hybrid structures and spray ice islands. More recently he has consulted on ice gouging design issues for offshore pipelines at Sakhalin Island and the Northern Caspian. He is Chairman of the Technical Committee for Canadian Code S472, Foundations for Offshore Structures.

Frank Puskar is President and Senior Consultant, Energo Engineering, Inc. in Houston, Texas. He has over 23 years experience in the offshore industry and has been involved in the analysis and design of platforms in many offshore earthquake areas including California, Sakhalin Island, Venezuela, Trinidad and Southeast Asia. He is the Technical Panel lead for the seismic section of the new ISO document related to Arctic Offshore Platforms.

Jack Templeton is President of SAGE USA, Inc. in Houston Texas. He is a professional engineer with over 40 years of experience including over a decade with Exxon Production Research Company (EPR) and an equal period in executive and consulting positions with affiliates of SAGE USA, where he concentrates primarily on finite element analysis of offshore foundation and soil mechanics problems. At EPR, he was engaged for several years exclusively in offshore arctic projects. He has worked on ice and soil mechanics problems in the US and Canadian Beaufort Sea, as well as the St. George, Navarin and Sakhalin Island areas.
